Poem for Betty

At the very centre of our need we met
And through mutal care live to see
The hurt of past forgotten times before we met
Give meaning to the discipline of what it is to be
Unbinding spring thawed the centre of cold
Like picnicing fairies have touched our lives
And in autumns bloom beaacoame aware of lifes design.
If those loved ones who still for us do care
Know what we have found together they also share.

March l976

Alone the pain is slain
It will not hurt in no mans land again
Stripped of all save noble need
To serve does not always lie within the deed.
This thing called love houses steel
Succumbing far to oft and deep to feel.
Again! I meet stronger overturing smile
This child-like innocence, no lover can defile
Fierce glad in joy my plinth is shorn
I need not think why you are gone.
Life, like timeless fields, commanding awe
Contains so many catching symbols to evermore
Found form with function flows its knowing law
It knows the hereafter of here before
Though with each beholden thanks so free
It offers no more questions to eternity.
